All New

Hey everyone. Since I completely redid my site, backend and front, it was easier to just change the rss feed address rather than try to integrate this file. This means that this is the last post I'll put out under this feed. Here is the new address http://www.lutheranmissions.org/paroikos/?feed=rss2 alternately you can go to the site and click on the subscribe button. Sorry for any inconvience.

So here it is eight at night and I’m studying, reading, trying to finish some research and get some
other work done and boom we get the opposite of the first day, all the lights go out. One second
I have the fan on, and plenty of light, and the next - the dead black of night . . . Read More

Pizza And Crickets

Two days ago I walked out of my apartment to go get some errands done. Two of the neighbor kids
were out there playing ball, but immediately stopped for the greater enjoyment of bombarding me
with questions. Like who had the better cricket team, India or __________ ? To which of course I
always answered India, to their great amusement . . . Read More

Seven Thousand Thirty Five

In my last blog I mentioned that the one image that stood out in my mind from the trip is simply
the overwhelming immensity of the work yet to be done. The vast populations of Indians who have
not yet heard about their Savior, the wonderful message of the gospel and the hope that it brings.
But there is another image which I forgot about, . . . Read More

Where to Stand?

After two plus weeks out in the fields, I return with too many thoughts and impressions for me to
even attempt to articulate, but one more than any other - How vast the work, and how limited our
resources. There is so much more that could be done, except we lack both the man power and the
financial resources. Faced with the immensity of the work there is always the double danger . . . Read More

not read or write and are pretty much the poorest of the poor. After the service last night a couple
of the members asked me to pray in their houses. Normally I have to bend to get into their huts, . . . Read More

This simply a list of all the things that happen to me for the first time over here. I will try to keep
it updated. But you will have to check back periodically since the RSS feed won’t tell you every time
I update it. Some of these things are explained more fully in other blogs. If you are curious about

Not Too Spicy

Yesterday and today I have spent teaching at the Seminary, 4 periods of 45 minutes each day. We
spent a good deal of time on Noah’s Ark and how that particular account applies to eschatology,
then some time today also on Jacob and Esau and what we can learn about predestination for that

Beyond the City - NEW PICTURES

I once read an editorial in a newspaper in which a guy made fun of God, saying how ridiculous it was to believe in God. He claimed that the eye was a perfect example since apparently in his mind the eye doesn't work anywhere near as well as it should. He claimed that man has made cameras that are far better at doing what the eye is supposed to do. I have always wanted to ask that man if he is really so foolish that he would rather have a man made camera than the eye that God has made. But what really makes me wonder at this guy's foolishness is when I am desperatley trying to capture on camera the beauty of the natural world. I know I'm not an expert, nor do I have the very top of the market technology. But I still have yet to see a photograph that can truly convey all that the eye God has given me can take in at a glance. Somethings I have tried to capture in the hopes of showing you at least part of what I see, others I haven't even bothered you'll just have to come and see them for yourself.

Don't Lick the Stamps!

I think this picture encapsulates for me the real difficulty about a foreign culture. It is n’t the fact
that there are difference. It is the fact that you never know when one of these differences is going
to sneak up behind and smack you a good one. It’s like an ill kept road, of which there are plenty
